Program Assistant

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Good physical health, including a negative TB test
  • Three positive references
  • Reliable transportation, or insured vehicle, or the ability to be insured by the company
  • Maintain a working telephone to be reached in an emergency
  • Successfully complete a 90 day orientation period, direct care training, Resident Advancement Inc. requirements and receive an acceptable evaluation
  • Valid driver's license (this requirement may be waived due to health reasons that prevent an employee from driving)

Job Performance Responsibilities

  • The Program Assistant is accountable to the Home Manager/Assistant Manager for job performance responsibilities associated with providing direct care and other duties, which may be delegated by management.
  • Implement all policies, procedures and legal committments to consumers as required by the Mental Health Code of the State of Michigan, CMH, Licensing and Resident Advancement Inc., reporting any deviations to the supervisory staff.
  • Participate with all staff in matters pertaining to the operation of the home.
  • Attend and pass all training required by governing agencies. Participate in mandatory staff meetings, inservices, etc. as required.
  • Complete delegated responsibilities and duties in a timely manner.
  • Be an advocate for all consumers, take action to properly safeguard them from abuse, neglect or other recipient rights violations. Immediately report any violation or illegal act to the H.M., P.M. or Director.
  • Properly distribute medication to the consumers.
  • Must be able to meet the physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs of the consumers. Engage in appropriate interactions.
  • Assist in the planning, supervising and transporting residents to community activities.
  • Knows and follows the person centered plan for the consumers, follow the daily routine of the home.
  • Assists in shopping, meal preparation, clean up, routine maintenance of the home, property and grounds.
  • Interact with consumers, staff and outside agencies in a professional manner.
  • Report to work on time and readily accept other shifts when possible.
  • Remain alert during working hours. Sleeping on the job is not tolerated.
  • Adhere to accepted standards of dress and grooming.
  • Use equipment safely and economically. Protect consumers clothing and valuables.
  • Operate the van in a safe manner and drive within the speed limit(operating the van may be waived).
  • Safeguard the confidentiality of the consumers and Resident Advancement Inc.
  • Ability to lift someone in a wheelchair with assistance from another staff person and/or perform physical management of consumers when necessary.

Delegated Responsibilities

The Home Manager or Assistant Manager may delegate reponsibilities to Program Assistants. If a delegated responsibility is a permanent duty, it should be in writing and attached as an addendum to the job description. The duty must have prior approval of the Program Manager or Director.

Evaluation

Job performance shall be evaluated in accordance with the Personnel Policies established by the Board of Directors.
